One of our absolute favourite walks to do with Kygo, our rottweiler, is Sea Point Promenade. The nice thing about this walk is that it is paved and fairly flat, making it suitable for all types of dogs and people of various fitness levels. You can decide which distance you’d like to do but the entire prom is about eight kilometres.

A beautiful day for a stroll |
The highlight of this walk is the stunning views of the Atlantic ocean and of Signal Hill, Table Mountain and Lions Head as you snake along the prom. We started our walk (just after 7am) opposite the Dolphin Inn on Beach Road, where the paved area starts. We walked all along the ocean, allowing Kygo to stop and sniff and say hi to any friends that came by. The promenade was already brimming with people but everyone was wearing face masks and there’s enough room to practise social distancing.

What a blue Monday looks like |
Depending on the weather, this is a great walk to do any time of the day. But if you want gorgeous pics I recommend an afternoon walk which includes watching a magnificent sunset. In summer, you can often spot dolphins frolicking in the water. And on a clear day you can see all the way to Robben Island.
The prom does get quite busy and you will have to share the walkway with cyclists, runners, walkers and often skateboarders (Kygo’s pet peeve). It is a very popular dog walk with many of the parks along the way being dog-friendly. Most of the signs indicate that your dog needs to be on lead but there are play parks where the dogs run free. At the park close to the lighthouse, there is a drinking fountain for your pooch. There are also lots of poo bags available and sufficient bins for you to be a responsible dog owner.

This is a very popular dog park. You can see the water fountain to the left of where the people are planting grass. |
I was pleasantly surprised that they have been planting grass all along the prom which has given this area an instant face-lift. There are also new walkways through the grass areas which is nice. The Sea Point Promenade Outdoor Gym is quite popular on your left just as you turn the corner at Three Anchor Bay Beach.

We stopped just opposite the SABC building and this was about two kilometres from our starting point.

We then took a leisurely stroll back and took a break in the shade by the Outdoor Gym to enjoy the view.
From there to the car was just over two kilometres, so in total we did a 4.5 kilometre walk.
We usually bring water along and Kygo’s collapsible bowl so that we can hydrate after the walk. Also don’t forget your hat, sunscreen and sunglasses. :)
